Courses for Exchange Students (ECTS) 2018/2019

Molecular Biology and Genetics

Spring week 04 (2019) - 08 (2019) Appl.code: 51091
Full-time, daytime class

ECTS credits: 7.5

Level of education: First Cycle (undergraduate level)

Level: G1N

Prerequisites: Standard university admission requirements.

Content: The course gives a basic knowledge of molecular biology and genetics, and the methods used within the area. It gives an introduction to how information is stored in the cell, regulation of gene expression and the role of gene regulation for the development and adaptability of organisms. The course deals with processes such as DNA and DNA replication, transcription, translation, protein synthesis, mutations, DNA repair and gene regulation. The connection between molecular biology and classical genetics will be demonstrated, explaining the basics of heredity theory. To complement the theory, basic laboratory activities are included to provide an introduction to molecular biology methods.

Teaching Methods: The course consists of lectures, seminars, group discussions and laboratory experiments.

Assessment:  Written examination, seminars and project. Written and oral presentation of laboratory reports and project.
