Courses for Exchange Students (ECTS) 2018/2019

Developmental Biology and Physiology

Autumn week 36 (2018) - 45 (2018) Appl.code: 51016
Full-time, daytime class

ECTS credits: 15

Level of education: First Cycle (undergraduate level)

Level: G1F

Prerequisites: Courses in Biology comprising at least 15 ECTS credits including Eukaryotic Cell Biology.

Content: The course is divided into two modules, Developmental Biology and Physiology.
Module 1, Developmental Biology, 7.5 ECTS credits
The course provides insight into embryonic development of different model organisms and regulation of the development of tissues and organs. The course deals with different stages of the early development of the fertilized egg, cell differentiation, cell migration and organogenesis. Relationships between evolution and development as well as developmental genetics are included. The course incudes laboratory classes related to developmental biology and physiology.
Module 2 Physiology, 7.5 ECTS credits
Human physiology is used as the model system for the course. The course deals with structural and functional aspects of organs and organ systems as well as the mechanisms for circulation, respiration, excretion, nutrition and metabolism. Furthermore, hormonal and nervous integration, sensory organs, reproduction and muscle physiology are incorporated. Practical laboratory activities are included.

Teaching Methods: The course consists of lectures, seminars, group discussions and laboratory experiments.

Assessment: Written examination, seminars and project. Written and oral presentation of laboratory reports and project.
