Environmental Toxicology and Risk Assessment, Second Cycle

Prerequisites: A first-cycle qualification comprising at least 180 credits of which at least 90 credits are for specialised study in the main field of study chemistry, biology, or environmental science where environmental toxicology is included. The applicant must also have qualifications corresponding to the course "English 6" or "English B" from the Swedish Upper Secondary School.

Content: The course focuses on conducting a scientifically based risk assessment of a chemical compound. This includes practical work using current principles and practices in risk assessment methodology including qualitative, quantitative and cumulative methods. The student will learn about scientific methods for data generation and experimental tests, epidemiology, exposure assessment, and chemical characterization. Included is also an overview of the scientific sources of toxicological data, key legislation and examples of the differences between the different authorities working in the field. A group exercise will run during the entire course, with the aim to put the knowledge into practical use.

Teaching Methods: Lectures, seminars and a literature assignment.
If the course has few students will the teaching be in form of tutoring.

Assessment:  Written and oral presentation of group assignment
