Environmental Toxicology

Prerequisites: Courses in Biology, Chemistry or Environmental Science comprising at least 45 Credits. The applicant must also have qualifications corresponding to the course "English 6" or "English B" from the Swedish Upper Secondary School.

Content: The course gives an overview of toxicological principles with emphasis on effects by persistent organic pollutants on the molecular level up to organism level. In addition, transport, transformation, distribution and accumulation of toxic compounds are reviewed. Global and regional problems with chemicals and risk assessment of environmental pollutants are presented. Further the course contains a laboratory part with studies of persistent organic pollutants in environmental matrices using bioanalytical methods.

Teaching Methods: Lectures, seminars, group assignment and laboratory exercises.
If the course has few students the teaching will be in form of tutoring.

Assessment: Written examination, laboratory reports, seminars
