Prerequisites: Successful completion of at least 19 credits on the course Economics, Basic Course, 30 Credits.

Content: Health economics is the application of theoretical or empirical economic analysis of health or health care using standard or specifically developed techniques from economics. This course introduces students to theories and methods which could be used to analyse the development in the health sector and to provide guidance for decisions on how to fund, organize and allocate the health care resources in an efficient way. Students will use and develop their knowledge accumulated during the previous courses in microeconomics. Using microeconomic theory and methods, students will build an understanding of several issues related to health and health care within the following areas: individual's demand for health and healthcare, patient-physician-hospital interaction, health insurance, characteristics of health insurance social insurance, equity in the finance and in the distribution of health care.
